THE SEA FT. ME, Nicolas Woche, Germany
The Sea Ft. Me
To get to the bottom of certain artworks, it is best to describe them in a simple way. Nicolas Woche’s installation The Sea Ft. Me consists of a speaker and a microphone placed in the middle of the Tromsø Bridge.
The microphone is connected to a speaker under water beneath the bridge, and just next to this is a hydrophone (underwater microphone), that again is connected to the speaker on the bridge. This way Woche has created a system, where the sound from the bridge is led 40 meters down, through the water and back again. This is a playful absurd apparatus which also distorts and alienates, on a bridge that is the central viewpoint of the city, but has tall barriers that tell a dark story of suicides.

Nicolas Woche
Nicolas Woche is from Berlin, but since the end of the 1990s he has spent much of his time in Norway. He was a student at Nordland College of Art and Film in Kabelvåg, Norway and today he is a student on the scriptwriting course at the film academy in Potsdam, Germany. In 2008 Woche was an exchange student at the Academy of Fine Art in Tromsø. Like so many other younger artists, Woche moves freely between different media such as film, sound, text and installation. Changing perspectives is a central motivation behind many of his works.
