RISING WATER, Amund Sjølie Sveen, Norway
RISING WATER
If the Greenland ice sheet melts, the sea level of the world will rise by around seven meters. Large parts of Tromsø centre, including Storgata, will be under water. The city’s new shoreline will cut through the centre, and Tromsø Cathedral will be just by the sea’s edge. Rising water is a sound installation that places the sea in the middle of Tromsø, 7 meters above today’s sea level.
Amund Sjølie Sveen
Amund Sjølie Sveen is a musician, composer, performance and sound artist, educated at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg. He often works with sound as a part of a wider performative context, and regularly plays concerts, visits festivals and attends exhibitions around Europe.
Sjølie Sveen has received much positive attention in the press over the last few years. For instance, his installation, The United States of Barents (USB), was described as ‘superbly in a class of its own’ by the Dagsavisen newspaper’s critique, in connection with the review of the exhibition Pan-Barentz. Sjølie has especially impressed with his ability to put his finger on the pulse of hot political topics, by using humour and a surreal touch, with high artistic qualities.
The project is comissioned by Tromsø Kunstforening
