The Kiss and Waste Project, Anne Lise Stenseth, Norway

The kiss and waste project
“I do not know you, but write me a letter as if I was your mother, sister, girlfriend or close relative”. This invitation has been the basis of Anne Lise Stenseth’s nine video portraits of women from countries around the Black Sea and North Sea, countries that the SEAS festival has visited.

The last film was made in Tromsø in the weeks before the festival. The styles of the portraits are very different, ranging from traditional interviews with humorous settings to poetic images loaded with atmosphere. Collectively Stenseth’s films form an archive of stories, dreams and lived lives that touch upon the experience of being- or the wish of being- somewhere else, mentally and geographically. The women’s tales make connections between nations and cultures, and in this way, mirror conditions and identities within contemporary Europe and around its borders.
