ELSEWHERE
Up until the 1980's, three large fish racks were erected at the Langnes area of Tromsø. These racks were skeletons from another age when dried fish were one of the strongholds of the culture of this coastal town.
After these monumental landmarks were destroyed (for reasons unknown), the artist Inghild Karlsen erected her 'replacement' in the shape of her homage work Else. Now Per Martinsen further comments on this work, as by a very physical variation of a Facebook comment, with his new work Elsewhere. This new installation contains of 50 lasers mounted in an aluminium frame displayed at the brewery Mack's Kjeller 5. The installation also includes a sound work in the shape of The North Synthesized. Elsewhere is the fish rack as viewed from the neon version of the Otherworld, where its geometric symbolism speaks of hidden meanings and magical code. It is the elseness of what used to be represented in the physical world in the form of the fish-racks, but is detatched from the original manifestation of them, like a dream that has less to do with its physical representation than with its existence within the Dreamworld itself.
