Installations

Borderline, Siri Hermansen, Norway

BORDERLINE
A Muslim, a Christian and a Jewish prayer are woven together to create a tapestry of sound that meets the soundscape of the city. Beautiful melodic sounds, female voices, male voices, and different languages wave back and forth, sometimes together, sometimes in opposition.

Fire Sculptures, Tor-Bjørn Gundersen, Norway

Tor-Bjørn Gundersen

Visual artist, started scenography in 1990 at Tromsø Byspill. Since then he has made the backdrops for a range of revues, theatre performances and other larger performances around Norway.

RISING WATER, Amund Sjølie Sveen, Norway

RISING WATER
If the Greenland ice sheet melts, the sea level of the world will rise by around seven meters. Large parts of Tromsø centre, including Storgata, will be under water. The city’s new shoreline will cut through the centre, and Tromsø Cathedral will be just by the sea’s edge. Rising water is a sound installation that places the sea in the middle of Tromsø, 7 meters above today’s sea level.

The Kiss and Waste Project, Anne Lise Stenseth, Norway

The kiss and waste project
“I do not know you, but write me a letter as if I was your mother, sister, girlfriend or close relative”. This invitation has been the basis of Anne Lise Stenseth’s nine video portraits of women from countries around the Black Sea and North Sea, countries that the SEAS festival has visited.

BENKER/BENCHES, Arvid Sveen, Norway

BENCHES/Benker
“I met the benches in Neptun, north of Mangalia in Romania in August 2008. They were weathered and beautiful. I photographed them, sat on them, and looked out over the Black Sea. Back in Tromsø, I found one of their relatives by the Arctic Ocean.

THE SEA FT. ME, Nicolas Woche, Germany

The Sea Ft. Me

To get to the bottom of certain artworks, it is best to describe them in a simple way. Nicolas Woche’s installation The Sea Ft. Me consists of a speaker and a microphone placed in the middle of the Tromsø Bridge.

Fantomat, Dritëro Kasapi, Sweden & Venelin Shurelov, Bulgaria

Fantomats

Sculpture - installations, formed by seven ‘soul and slot machines’ – humanoid sculptures with plasma eyes that show humorous glimpses of the Black Sea landscape. Situated in public places, the Fantomats mark the citizens’ paths and reflect on an over- commercialised public space.

Descriptions: Tblisi, Wato Tsereteli, Georgia

Descriptions: Tbilisi
In his film Descriptions: Tbilisi Wato Tsereteli takes us to the fascinating city of Tbilisi, the capital of his home country Georgia. Throughout history this small country in the Caucasus Mountains has been an area of both conflict and meetings between cultures.

ELSEWHERE, Per Martinsen, Norway

ELSEWHERE
Up until the 1980's, three large fish racks were erected at the Langnes area of Tromsø. These racks were skeletons from another age when dried fish were one of the strongholds of the culture of this coastal town.
